crazy-ass statue park

we visited this super out of the way, very strange statue park. kind of like the garden of eden (in central Kansas)... the creator's corpse is under a glass dome AND decorated with blinky christmas lights.

the only thing that could've made this better was the orient express roller coaster.

snakey!

maYour "elephant guy" is of course the Hindu deity Ganesha, or Ganesh, or possibly Steve. The usual iconography is a much larger elephant-headed guy with four hands and a way smaller mouse. The mouse is often referred to as Ganesha's "vehicle" and, not to knock your artist or anything, it's more intriguing (and less creepy) to have a tiny mouse vehicle than the SUV-sized model we see here.

Ganesh is one of the coolest deities in all of world religion. He's the son of Shiva and Parvati, who are the Sting and Trudy of the spirit world. If you ever go to tantric sex camp, you'll spend a lot of time doing the Shiva & Parvati yabyum. Maybe you're already spending a lot of time at that. I hope so.

There's also a virgin-birth story about Ganesh, where Shiva doesn't actually contribute (which makes more sense in the ol' seminal retention tradition of tantra than it does in some other traditions), cuz Parvati is a mythic progenitor of the virgin Mary. It's a cool storytelling motif, but I prefer the yabyum. I believe there's also a version in which Shiva pulls a Zeus and out pops Ganesh--although I don't think it's from Shiva's forehead. Knowing the Hindus, it's probably lower down on the body.

Speaking of which, Ganesh is associated with the muladhara chakra, which is chakra #1. So whenever you feel yourself clamping your butt closed, you're invoking Lord Ganesha.

I can't tell from the photo whether this shrunken-headed Ganesh has all his usual implements. Is that a rope or a whip? The rope is to drag you into nirvana. If there's an axe, it's to sever your worldly ties. And I'm trying to remember the third thing. A fistful of circus peanuts, perhaps. His fourth hand should remain free, in order to bless you.

As I myself do, this fine Monday. Cool photos!

When you see the Dog in the boat, you think maybe something's gone wrong. Then, you see the Dogs with guns, and you know. You know.
