our first stop in laos was luang prabang, the old french capital

something ricey and round drying in the sun. homemade rice cakes, maybe? seems easier to buy them at safeway.

I feel sorry for the monk who didn't get to participate in Monk Chat. Dispatch these conversation starters to him at once:
1. Do you guys use real saffron to dye your robes, or is that just soy saffron?
2. If I say "me love you long time" to a Buddhist, am I kidding myself? I mean, am I comparing myself to some indefatigable tantrica? Y'know what I'm sayin'?
3. Did you ever see any of those Swift Boat Veterans For Truth out on the Mekong, back in the day? They were assholes, weren't they.
